Caves and Rocks in Chattanooga (#69)

Updated: Nov 10, 2024

Our visit to Chattanooga was fabulous and is definitely a place we will come back to visit. The river route from Goose Pond to Chattanooga are some of our favorites on this whole trip.

Laura loves leaving at First Light because of all these spectacular pictures we get on the water.

ree

These are our dear friends on Dream Looper coming towards us. There was no one on the river and our AIS didn't work as well because of the hills. Our friends on Therapy told us they might be coming and we looked up and found them!

ree

We tied up to each other in the middle of the rive (no traffic that day) and shared stories of the Rendezvous and their travels. They had spent many days in Chattanooga and were heading back. Julie does a fablous job sharing their Great Loop on Facebook. They are always a step ahead or with us. You can follow them here: https://www.facebook.com/p/Adventures-on-Dream-Looper-61557925987163/

They took our picture as we were getting ready to raft up together. See the gorgeous leaves.

ree

Along the way we had to notate when we crossed Suck river to change the time from Central to Eastern.

And right as we were arriving in Chattanooga we saw our firs commercial vessel on the water. This boat took tourists around the bend and back for tours and were docked next to us in Chattanooga.

We left from Hales Bar to arrive in Chattanooga and prepare our boat so we could fly back to Texas for a quick trip to handle some business back home. When we returned we were able to see more of the sights around Chattanooga.

ree

We weren't able to get pictures of the boat because we were in a covered slip that wasn't visible from the street. This was great since we weren't there for four days. We moved to an uncovered slip on our last day there so we could enjoy our Starlink service.

ree

We went to Ruby Falls caves and got a wonderful tour about this cave system that has also been a tourist attracting for over 75 years.

ree

At the end of this narrow cave walkway we open up to this dark sound. They turn on the lights for the tour group and you look up and see this beautiful waterfall.

ree

And the colors change so you get all kinds of intersesting pictures.

ree

We drove some more down another beautiful street.

ree

And were welcomed by Halloween decorataions a few days after the event.

ree

We didn't know what to expect at Rock City. So we started down the path with rocks around.

ree

And then we found some narrow walkways.

ree

And more Halloween celebrations.

ree

We tried to capture pictures with the beautiful leaves and rocks.

You can see seven states from this overlook.

ree

And this magnificent waterfall.

ree

We thought the tour was over and then walked through this archway...

ree

To find even more artistic uses of water and rocks.

These viniettes were in rock holes and backlit. The exhibits were created by Freida Carter. There were about eight of these depictuions of german fairy tales.

ree

This was part of a walkaround room where you could see displays of children's rhymes.

ree

We saw a Spotted Gar and identified that as what was behind our boat at Joe Wheeler State park - and not an Alligator Gar.

ree

Picture of river systems.

ree

Horseshoe bend at Tennessee River. This was the place of an important civil war battle, and where we met the ferry before arriving in Chattanooga.

ree

The night view was spectacular but only have this one picture.
