Last Stop at our Favorite Colonial Beach(#122)

We left Coan River Marina at first light for our short journey to Colonial Beach.

We love seeing the sunrise as we start our boating days.

We had waterski perfect calm seas on our way to Colonial Beach.

The trip was supposed to be about 4 hours at our normal trawler speed, but we decided to pump of the speed to go on plane for about an hour based on the suggestion of our tech.

We arrived at Colonial Beach. So many times on our weekend adventures, we would see our friends Dave & Kathy Weekman here in their favorite slip. They are now permanently in Hilton Head.

Our stay in Colonial Beach marks our first and only return stop before we return to Prince William Marina. Our Sparkling Star Great Loop Stops Map is now complete.

When we arrived, Laura did her regular walk and saw the Sea Gulls peppering the sandy beach.

We took a dinghy ride to see the hold Dryden Farm from Ted's grandparents. He first starting coming here when he was in the Navy, and we visited when Daeland was 6 months old. The farm was sold before Grayce was born.

Over the five years we've been visiting, the farm now looks in the best condition, but still not to the standards of his grandparents.

We arrived back on the Shooting Star and took a picture of the Sparkling Star from the dinghy.

Ted tood a couple of pictures of Laura with our Gold Loop flag.

Ted took the dinghy our for a fast ride and went in circles beforhand to get this cool wake pattern.

Ted ran the engines to get rid of the excess gas.

Then puth the dinghy up on the SeaWise davit system.

We went to dinner at our favorite mexican restaurant in town. This restaurant was formerly our favorite Thai restaurant.

We drove the Boathouse Marina golf cart to the Ice House.

We came here when it first opened and now it's a local favorite

Ted had a favorite dark beer as we celebrated our Great Loop accomplishments in our familiar haunt.

Stay: 1 night

Pros: Great restrooms, wonderful staff, floating docks, good electricity, deep water, close to Colonial Beach, free Golf Cart use, our boat home away from home

Cons: Not many transient slips so call/ask ahead

5 stars
