Last but not Least in Lakefield (#26)

Our day started off with extreme indecision about our next stop. We are looking for power, and it's not easy to come by on the locks. The Trent Severn is filling up with Loopers and vactioners for the busy season, and some of the Loopers are stalled because of a railway bridge at the end of the Trent Severn. We decided that Lakefield could be a great stop, but we really wanted to go further.
However, our day started with a one hour wait for fuel, even though we could have been first in line if we'd moved a bit quicker at 8am. But that wouldn't have mattered, because the Lock had mechanical issues, and then a railway bridge wouldn't open, then another mechanical issue, and another bridge. Our 3 hour trip took about 6 hours, and we didn't get the lock wall docking with electricity we had hoped for. Our backup marina was magnificent, and a welcome end to a day filled with obstacles.

And we were greeted with Ice Cream!

The dockhand commended us on our docking. We needed to go sideways about 100 ft to get against the wall. When we went to go pay, he said that some people have such a hard time docking they give up and leave because of the current. After our time at Peterborough, this current was easy!

Houseboats enjoying the marina and views.
