Once our tour arrived, we met and went on tours of the city. We already had some familiarilty with the city because of our time already in Romania. We met our wonderful guide Christi (for Christian) and the other three program directors.

Romanian Paliament building in the background. The brainchild of Ceausescu, the last communist leader. It is the second largest office building after the Pentagon. It is currently less than 70% occupied.

We saw this beautiful newly constructed Peoples Salvation Cathedral from the bus. It should be finished by next year. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/People%27s_Salvation_Cathedral

We had a lovely tour of Bucharest with our new shipmates.

This ornate restaurant fed our entire tour.

Our guest speaker explained how he was one of 17 youth that survived the peaceful protest that turned into a massacre during the four days of the Romanian revolution. He said that prior to that day, Romanians were not allowed to gather with more than 4 people. He wore this flag over his head as a shirt to show he was proud to be Romanian but against communism. History

Laura went to the National Village Museum in oppressive heat while the others went on a city tour. Ted stayed behind in the cool hotel. Laura struggles walking around in 104 degrees and the taxi driver took a picture of the heat on his car when driving her back to the hotel because it was 20 degrees higher than normal. The musuem had homes from all over Romania, but unfortunately they were not all open to walk inside on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Apparently Carousels were invented in Romania. Laura couldn't take many pictures because her phone kept shutting down due to heat.
