After a magnificent journey through the Iron Gates on the Danube, we arrived at the Belgrade Fortress.

We walked up, down and around this magnificent building. Used primarily as a stopping point to collect taxes for passage through the narrow Iron Gates. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belgrade_Fortress

The fortress was never conquered, but was sold to the Ottoman Turks which led to 400 years of Turkish occupation throughout Serbia, Hungary, and Romania.

Even though in Serbia, the EU gave funding to Serbia to build a car tunnell and remove the tunnel that went through the base of the fortress. With the remaining funds, the fortress was renovated and now is a top tourist attraction for the area.

After our trip, we moved down the river to Belgrade.

Belgrade may or may not be a lovely city. That evening, Laura caught the same 24 illness that wiped through 50-70% of the occupants of the ship. Ted stayed back with Laura as she worked on getting better for the following days adventures.
