After dinner the night before, Ted became sick with a 24 hr GI illness. Towards the middle of the day he was able to join us.
TRAVEL: We had two famous locks to get to Serbia called the Iron Gates.

We saw the famous Roman Tabula Triana commemorating the Emporor Trajens construction of a bridge across a difficult part of the Danube in 100AD to conquor the Dacian Empire.

This part of the trip was one of the times where the experience was so beautiful it couldn't really be captured in photos.

Also saw a monumont carved in stone the size of Mount Rushmore to the last Dacian King Decebalus.

Us and the stone mountain King,

We left Romania and went to Serbia on this trip.

Ted started to feel better by mid-day. Good thing today was a travel day.

Arrival in Serbia on new docking platform. We couldn't leave the boat unless the security forces were around. We were not in a EU zone and needed to carry our passports when leaving the boat.

EXCURSION:
Pros: Fascinating excursion to see the ruins of an ancient civilization
Cons: Not enough time
Rating: 5 stars

Because of the low water in Constanta we got an extra day in Serbia. The highlight of this extra day was the trip to Lepensic Vin.

In order to make the Iron Gates, part of the Danube was flooded. In the construction period, pottery was being uncovered that didn't match earlier pottery. Archeologists were called in to the area in the 70's and made discoveries about a civiilisation that lived up to 9,000 years ago. We visited the largest site that was uncovered.

This stone is immediately above the area where the site was located, but is currently flooded.

Archeologists took meticulous measurements and dug up the stones and recreated the site at an area above the flood zone. Each of these triangles are thought to be homes that were build over each layer. There were a few skeletans near the homesite of the earliest settlers.

Each triangle homesite is thought to have housed a wooden structure such as this facing the mountain.

This is the mountain that all the sites face.

This is the unusual designed pottery found at the site.
